How do you describe a person?

Is the focus supposed to be on what they say or do?

Do you talk about their character or their environment?

If I wanted you to know more about me, there are a thousand ways I could go about it. I could tell you about the time I lost a fight with a tree, why Journey is both the best and worst band to ever produce a melody, or the way I eat oatmeal — which is to say not at all. I could go a different route and begin telling you about something I value, or a list of The Essentials. But if I did you wouldn't really know me, you'd only know about me.

We have a limited amount of time together, don't we? Much like people trapped in an elevator. If you were stuck in a steel cage with me going nowhere fast and we might plummet to our demise at any moment...what would we talk about?

We would share stories.

Because when we get to the end of our time we won't be concerned with how much was in our 401k, or how many points our fantasy football team scored. What will matter is what kind of Story we lived and what stories came out of that.

My aim in life is for my Story to simply be this: To bring glory to the name of Jesus, and see worship arise from a life well lived in pursuit of the heart of God.

If you don't learn anything else about me, that's enough. We are creatures of choice, and as such we get to decide what we want to be. This is how I choose to define myself. These are my goals.

Everything else is a story waiting to happen.
